The Central Valley Project is renowned for its Workshops in Wet-Plate Collodion, and Albumen & Salted Paper printing, not only in Berlin, but throughout Europe and the US. Private tutorials and workshops are available in Wet-Plate Collodion photography (Ambrotypes, Tintypes, Opaltones, and Orotones), and Albumen, Salted Paper, and Cyanotype printing at Berlin's only skylight studio.
Einzelunterricht und Workshops werden in Berlins einzigen „Skylight-Studio“ für das nasse Kollodium-Verfahren (Ambrotypien, Tintypien, Opaltones, und Orotones), sowie für historische Edeldruckverfahren mit Albumin, Salzpapier und Cyanotypie angeboten.

The 2-day Wet-Plate Collodion Photography Workshop is an introduction into the amazing world of creating photographic images on glass, historically known as ambrotypes. This Collodion Workshop, a new collaboration between PhotoWerkBerlin and the Central Valley Project, differs from other collodion workshops, in that it is held in Berlin's only skylight studio. Shooting with natural daylight not only creates a more pleasing image (in contrast to harsh artificial light), but also under such lighting, students will learn the challenging issue of exposure control, something students will not learn in a controlled studio setting. The Workshop includes instruction in all steps of the process, from the chemistry involved and glass preparation to troubleshooting and creating your own unique images (students generally leave the Workshop with more than 10 self-created ambrotypes). All chemistry and materials are included. In addition, equipment, including large-format (4x5, 5x7, and 8x10) cameras, and antique brass lenses, is available for use. No prior photographic experience is required. Course is limited to 4 participants. Contact us for details and registration.
Die Workshops zum nassen Kollodium-Verfahren beinhalten Instruktionen angefangen bei der chemischen Zusammensetzung der verwendeten Lösungen, der Reinigung der Träger aus Glasplatten bis zur eigenhändigen Erstellung von einzigartigen Fotografien. Fortgeschrittene Workshops behandeln Problemlösungen, die Herstellung von Negativen auf Glas und das Vervielfältigen dieser mittels historischen Edeldruckverfahren. Sämtliche Chemikalien und andere Materialien werden gestellt. Die erforderliche fotografische Ausrüstung, einschließlich großformatige Kameras und antike Objektive aus Messing, stehen den Kursteilnehmern zur Verfügung. Aufgrund der Komplexität der Verfahren werden 2-tägige Workshops angeboten. Die Teilnehmerzahl ist auf 4 Personen begrenzt. Einzelunterricht kann gebucht werden.

Salted Paper, Albumen, & Cyanotype Printing
(Salz, Cyanotype, & Albumindruckverfahren)
Historical printing workshops (in Albumen, Salted Paper, and Cyanotype) are also available. All materials including chemistry, printing frames and art paper is included. As these methods are contact printing processes, enlarged negatives are required (the size of your negative will be the size of your print). Wet-plate collodion glass negatives are perfect. However, for those who do not have large negatives, a method for producing enlarged digital negatives will be presented prior to the workshop. Workshops zur Erlernung historischer Edeldruckverfahren werden ebenfalls angeboten. Sämtliche erforderlichen Materialien und Hilfsmittel, einschließlich Chemikalien, Kontaktkopierrahmen und Papier, werden im Rahmen der Unterrichtseinheiten gestellt. Da es sich bei den Techniken um Auskopierverfahren handelt, sind großformatige Negative erforderlich (die Größe des Negativs ist gleich der Größe des späteren Abzuges). Glasnegative als Kollodium-Nassplatte eignen sind zu diesem Zweck sehr gut, sind jedoch nicht erforderlich. Der Kursteilnehmer wird zu Beginn des Workshops eine Methode zum Herstellen von großformatigen Negativen erlernen.
